An outdoor television's built-in speakers are aimed at people sitting close and quiet. Outdoors there are no walls to reinforce the sound, no ceiling to bounce it back, and usually a pool pump, traffic or wind competing with the dialogue. The Elf S2 is a soundbar built for that environment rather than adapted to it: IP65 rated against dust and water jets, wall-mountable, and voiced to project rather than fill a room.
This is the difference between an outdoor soundbar and an indoor one on a covered patio. IP65 covers dust ingress and low-pressure water jets from any direction, which means rain, hose-down cleaning and the humidity that kills ordinary electronics near a pool. Three sets of mount kits are supplied so it can be wall-mounted under the screen, and at 975mm wide and 2.0kg it lines up neatly under a 43"–65" panel.
HDMI ARC is the connection that makes a soundbar worth having: audio returns down the same HDMI cable from the television, and the TV remote controls the bar's volume. No second remote in the outdoor drawer, no separate power-on step for whoever is running the barbecue. If ARC is not available, optical, coaxial RCA and USB inputs are all provided, and Bluetooth 4.2 handles phones and tablets for music between screenings.
News, Movie, Music and Sport, switched from the remote. Outdoors these matter more than they do inside — News tightens dialogue so commentary carries over ambient noise, Movie opens the low end for a film night, Sport lifts crowd atmosphere without burying the call. There is a 15-minute auto power-off, which is the feature you appreciate when the last person leaves the terrace without touching anything.
The Elf S2 is the right upgrade for a domestic terrace, deck or pool area — a few dozen people at conversational distance. For a venue crowd, a noisy site or a proper outdoor cinema audience, a soundbar is the wrong tool at any price: you want a matched pair of weatherproof CF-series speakers on amplification, positioned to put sound on the audience rather than the neighbours. Tell us the audience size and we will tell you which side of that line you are on.
An outdoor soundbar, not an indoor one on a patio
Sound quality is the easy part. Staying alive through a summer of rain, pool humidity and hose-downs is what separates this from the bar in your lounge room.
Sealed against dust ingress entirely, and rated against low-pressure water jets from any direction. That covers driving rain, hose-down cleaning and the salt-laden humidity around a coastal pool — the three things that quietly kill ordinary electronics mounted outdoors.
HDMI with TV ARC, optical in, coaxial RCA in, USB for MP3 playback and Bluetooth 4.2 — all in a weather-rated body with 120W of peak output behind them. All the cables you need are in the box, so the install is one power lead and one HDMI run.
Over ARC the television's own remote controls the bar's volume, so nothing extra lives in the outdoor drawer. Four EQ modes — News, Movie, Music, Sport — switch the voicing for what's on, and a 15-minute auto power-off handles the nights when everyone drifts inside without turning anything off.
Yes — IP65 means dust tight and protected against low-pressure water jets from any direction, so rain and hose-down cleaning are fine. It's designed to be wall-mounted under an outdoor television and left there. As with any outdoor AV, mount it under an eave or overhang where you can and put a drip loop in the cabling; both extend its life considerably.
No. The Elf S2 is a 2.0-channel bar with Bluetooth 4.2 and HDMI ARC. Dolby Atmos, eARC, Bluetooth 5.3 and the 2.1-channel configuration belong to the Elf S3, which is a different model — some of Sylvox's combined marketing material lists the two together, so it's worth being clear about. If Atmos matters to you, ask us about the S3 and we'll price it.
Almost certainly. It connects over HDMI ARC, optical, coaxial RCA or Bluetooth, so any television with a digital audio output will drive it. ARC is the connection worth using — it lets the TV remote control the soundbar's volume, so there's only one remote to keep track of outdoors.
For a domestic terrace, deck or pool area with a few dozen people at conversational distance, yes. For a proper outdoor cinema audience, a venue crowd, or a site with real ambient noise, no — no soundbar is. That needs a pair of weatherproof CF-series speakers on amplification, positioned onto the audience. Tell us the numbers and the site and we'll spec it honestly.
Three sets of wall mount kits are supplied to suit different wall types and positions. At 975mm wide it sits neatly under a 43"–65" panel; under a 75" or larger it will look narrow relative to the screen, which some people mind and some don't. We'll confirm the position and cable runs as part of the quote.
